A man performs the Jewish ritual of Kapparot on the eve of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, swinging a live rooster above his head for atonement of sins before God and purification. After the sins are passed on to the rooster it is butchered for eating. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year in Judaism.
