Two examples of the heart crowned gules occur in Sir DavidLindsays MS., those of Douglas, Lord of Niddisdaill, and Douglasof Drumlanrig (65, 98). In the other examples of Douglas givenby him the heart is not crowned. Mr. Seton says that the heart first appears ensigned with acrown on the seal of William, eleventh Earl of Angus, in 1617, andrefers to Laings Catalogue, No. 255 {The Law and Practice of Heraldryin Scotland, p. 224, ;/. 4).
