A gold mounted shamshir, Oman/Saudi Arabia, 19th century. A broad, heavy, single-edged blade of watered steel. There are script cartouches engraved on both sides of the quillons. The grip frame is set with filigree (incomplete), and has braided wire wrapping and two riveted elephant ivory grip scales. The pommel cap is missing. The wooden scabbard is wrapped with leather with fine cord ornaments laid underneath and has gold furniture decorated en suite.
