The space under the head of the rail is filled in with eitherwood or cement. The city authorities are so well pleasedwith the construction that they have insisted that thecompany shall use this rail hereafter on every new tracklaid in newly paved streets. In Gloversville, N. Y., a six inch T rail is employedby the Cayadutta Electric Railroad Company in a streetpaved with cobble stones. A plank is laid edgewiseon the inside of the rail. Mr. Frenyear, general managerof the company, tells us that he does not think the plankany advantage, provided the paving is properly done, butthe company was compelled to use it by the terms of itsfranchise. The cobble paving to the outside of the railmakes a good joint. The T rail chairs are spiked directlyto the ties.
