Many of the older resi-dents have rendered much valuable aid, and the generous patronage of ourenterprising advertisers has enabled the publisher to makethe price of thebook at so low a sum as to have its place in the libraries of most of thehouseholds in this city. The main motive in preparing this work was to preserve to the presentand future generations matters that are forgotten or bid fair to become buriedin oblivion. Some of the events chronicled may seem trivial to a few peoplebut will be of interest to others, especially llie older residents, and it is hopedwill assist the labors of some future historian in ]ireparing a semi-centennialhistory of Lawrence, in 1895. c.
