In 1881 he was pro-moted to the position of engineer, and ran thepusher engine at Sidney for six months; then hadthe Delhi Branch engine for five months, andafterwards ran an engine on the construction ofthe West Shore Railroad in New Jersey for eight-een months. In June, 1S83, Mr. Perlee became an engineeron the milk train between Middletown and Wee-hawken, a distance of seventy eight miles, mak-ing the round trip, one hundred and fifty-sixmiles. He has since served in that capacity, andis known as one of the most reliable engineers onthe road. In addition to this work he is ownerof the principal drug store in Middletown, situat-ed on the corner of North and Courtland Streets,and carried on under the firm stvle of George J. FRANCIS .MATTHEWS. PORTRAIT AND BIOGRAPHICAI, RECORD. 1283 Hill & Co. In former years he had extensiveagricultural interests, but he is not interested inagriculture at present. His residence at No. 12Albert Street, Middletown, is the finest on thestreet and one of the best in the city. The first wife of Mr. Perlee bore the maidenname of Emma Alcott, and she died in this second marriage, which took place here, unit-ed him with Mrs. Edith ( Decker) Younglove, anative of Middletown, and daughter of Jesse Sarah E. (Crans) Decker, old and promi-nent residents of this county. Her father, in1894 and 1895, entertained the members of theDecker and Crans families on the occasion oftheir reunion. Our subject and his wife are theparents of one
