CONSTRUCTION FEATURES OF THE CAR HOUSE All foundation walls are of concrete projecting 6 ins. above grade. Those in the storage half of building are 4 ft. deep, and in the pit end they are 5 ft. and 9 ft. deep. The pit walls, floors and piers are all concrete; also all floors, except. 498 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. [Vol. XXIX. No. 12. in office and trainmens room. The office has a i^^ floor, and the trainmens room an iron spotted buffbrick. All roof trusses are spaced 17 ft. 6 ins. centers and arecarried on brick piers 2 ft. x 2 ft. 8 ins. in size. Thesepiers all have cap stones and two. binder blocks 12 The brick wall between the piers is 8 ins. thick andall dividing walls are carried up as fire walls 3 ft. above light. All sash in sides are pivoted and operated in groupsfrom the side walls near the floor. Lighting and ventilating car houses by means of a lanternskylight has been found very satisfactory, the car housebeing well lighted with practically no dark corners. Thegeneral lighting of the car house at night is with six 50-cpincandescent lamps placed on the bottom of each truss andcontrolled from a switch box on the side walls of the Property Line Fence ^■^•^^iFf^
