Uzbekistan/India: Timur defeats the Sultan of Delhi, Nasir Al-Din Mahmum Tughluq, in the winter of 1397-1398, painting dated 1595-1600. Amir Timur/Taimur (8 April 1336 – 18 February 1405), later Timur Gurkani and often known as Tamerlane (from Tīmur-e Lang) in English, was a fourteenth-century conqueror of Western, South and Central Asia, founder of the Timurid Empire and Timurid dynasty (1370–1405) in Central Asia, and great great grandfather of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Dynasty in India. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest military leaders in history, undefeated in battle.
