Military balloon crash. This crash took place on 25 May 1891, near Ermenonville Forest, France. It involved bad weather bringing down a French balloon from the Chalais-Meudon aerostation, near Paris. The balloonists suffered broken bones and bruises. A second balloon was also present (background) landing some distance away. The Aerostation Militaire at Chalais-Meudon was established in 1877. Military ballooning in France dates back to the 1790s. Artwork from the eighth volume (second period of 1891) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
