Staircase of the Chamber of Peers

The view taken in 1828, shows the staircase of the Chamber of Peers leading to the great Hall in the Palace of Luxembourg. It s in the form of a Greek Theatre with Corinthian Columns for support. Inside there are statues. Solon by Roland, Aristides by Cartellier, Scipio Africanus by Ramey, Demosthenes by Pajou, Cicero by Houdon, Lycurgus by Foucon, Camillus by Bridan, Cinncinatus by Chaudit, Cato of Utica by Clodion, Pericles by Masson, Phocion by Delaistre and Leonidas by Lemet. There is a bust of Louis XVIII by Dupaty. The name of Palais de la Chambre des Pairs is also used. The image was drawn by T I Bury under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by J Winkles
