Hilton (Department of Zoology, Pomona College) Among the earliest papers dealing with these structures was that of Magendie 1825, although they had been seen by the very first students of brain anatomy. Their form, position and early development have been known in a general way for a long time. Among the earlier papers are those of Hess 1885, Lachi 1888, Francotte 1894. Other papers later are those of Findlay 1899, 116.
