Sylvestre Maurice. Portrait of the French planetary scientist, Sylvestre Maurice with the LIBS (Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy) instrument from the Mars Curiosity Rover. The LIBS instrument is one of two instruments that make up the ChemCam (Chemistry and Camera complex) remote sensing instruments on the rover. Maurice is the Deputy Principal Investigator for ChemCam and is responsible for the design, constructing, testing and delivery of the LIBS instrument.
