Black and white lithograph print circa 1868 entitled "Across the Continent - Westward the Course of Empire Takes Its Way". It depicts the spread of settlers across the American continent and features a settlement in the foreground with a church, school and railroad train. In the distance can be seen a wagon train heading further west and herds of buffalo crossing the plains. Two Native American Indians on horses can be seen watching the white settlers. Print by Currier & Ives, artist Fanny Palmer (1812 - 1876).
