Because the mouth is set so far posterior to the anterior adductor muscle, the palps occupy a central position within the mantle cavity. The palp proboscides are exceptionally long, reflecting the increased posterior extension of the mantle cavity. The foot is relatively small and the body axis is not turned anteriorly to the same ex- tent as in the previous species. How- ever, the foot remains very muscular with powerful anterior and posterior retractor muscles. The mouth is positioned about one-third the length of the body posterior to the an- terior adductor and, as in S. fragilis, the course of the oesophagus is forward to the anterior adductor muscle before turning posteriorly towards the stomach. The stom- ach is not as large as in the other members of the genus, nor does it take up as much.
