A sunrise view from Grassy Ridge on Roan Mountain in Pisgah National Forest. This area is home to the longest stretch of grassy bald in the Appalachian Mountain chain and has the largest natural rhododendron garden in the world. Roan Mountain is the highpoint in the Roan-Unaka Range in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Cherokee and Pisgah National Forests converge at the top of the mountain , which hugs the Tennessee-North Carolina border. The famed Appalachian Trail is located adjacent to the Grassy Ridge and is easily accessible from this point.
