Here, there are four rounded fungiform papillae, which are covered by keratinised stratified epidermis (yellow). These papillae bear taste buds. Below the papillae of the epithelium are striated muscle blocks arranged in vertical (red), transverse (deep green) and longitudinal (red) blocks.
