Portugal: Night view of the Abbey Santa Maria de Alcobaça


The Abbey church Santa Maria de Alcobaça is the biggest church in Portugal. It has been constructed by the Order of Cistern between 1178 and 1254. The baroque towers of the main facade date of the 18th century. Inside of the church can be seen the tombstones of legendary King Pedro I. and his wife Dona Ines de Castro, who lived one of the most romantic and tragic love stories in Portugal´s history.
