Very rarely the thickening is great and the brain-substance atrophic and indurated, and the lateral ventricles aredilated and full of serous fluid. 6. In the insane all forms ofthickening of the pia begin ordinarily over the central convolu-tions. In the 48 cases in which thickening of tlie pia was present21 were cases of general paralysis; 9, of pellagrous insanity; 6,of terminal dementia ; 4, of acute delirium ; and 1 each
