CONCORDIA PARISH Figure 4.—Plan of Troyville Mound group, about 1871 (after Thomas and Beyer). at the town of Troyville on Black River.^- It is not, however, wholly accurate, as the town which was laid out in 1871 was com- posed of 16 blocks filling the entire area inside the ancient embank- ment, and these blocks were oriented parallel to the axes of the two rivers bordering it. Thus early in the town's history nearly all of the mounds were subject to a greater or lesser amount of disturb- ance. The Great Mound, No. 1 on the Thomas plat (fig. 4, No. 5), occupied the major part of block 11, lying across it from north to south.
