Prostate cancer radiotherapy equipment. These needles, which contain titanium seeds with radioactive iodine-125, are about to be used during brachytherapy to treat prostate cancer. Brachytherapy is a form of radiotherapy where radioactive sources are implanted in a cancerous area inside an organ, so that the radiation can kill the cancerous cells. The needles will be inserted through the perineal skin and guided to the prostate gland using a trans-rectal ultrasound probe.
