There seems to continue to be some question about therelation between the AREC and RACES. Why, we wonder?On a good many occasions, we have attempted to clear thisup, but in some places there is still conflict. Who causesthe conflict is a detail, but it takes two to make a AREC groups on the one hand, and a cold,fishy attitude on the part of people on the other handcan cause all kinds of trouble. They are matters for localresolution. ARRLs official view of the relationship is that the twoorganizations are (, should be) overlapping and inter-lacing — in some places identical. We are not ready to dropthe AREC overboard, for several reasons. The most impor-tant one is that weve worked hard, we amateurs, for thelast 20 jears, to make the AREC our own emergency serviceorganization, and were proud of it. As long as there is aneed and use for it, we want to maintain it — and whereno particular program exists, there is plenty of needfor it. But this does no
