The Anatomy of an Horse (1683), title page. This work was authored by Andrew Snape (1644-1708), appointed as farrier to King Charles II. It is considered one of the most comprehensive and beautifully illustrated books about the horse published in Britain in the 17th century. Topics covered included equine anatomy, physiology and reproduction. The book contained 49 copperplate engravings and an appendix with discourses on generation of animals (reproduction), the motion of the chyle (a digestive fluid), and the circulation of the blood. Published in London, subsequent editions appeared in 1685, 1686, and 1687.
