Luther Emmett Holt (1855-1924), American doctor and founder af paediatrics. After graduating as a doctor, Holt decided to devote himself to the study of paediatrics, which was not recognised as a discipline at the time. He was particularly concerned with the prevention of physical, mental and moral illness in children. His books on child care and feeding went through numerous editions and became the standard texts of paediatrics. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of America's oldest news picture agencies, which holds images dating from the 1890s to the 1930s.
