Nootka lupin flowers (Lupinus nootkatensis). This plant was introduced to Iceland from Alaska to improve devegetated areas of land with heavily eroded soil. The plant is capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen and it was planted with the intention of improving the soil. The plant has now become very widespread and in some areas it outcompetes native species. Photographed in Rejkajik, Iceland, in May.
