2nd Lt. George H. Lyon of the 69th Infantry, also known as "Col. Bill Hayward's Old Fifteenth," arrives home on the steamer Stockholm at Pier 55, North River, New York City. The regiment, largely recruited from the San Juan Hill area, was greeted by large delegations of African Americans and had been decorated with the Croix de Guerre. It took over an hour for the men to greet their friends at the next pier. This photograph was taken by the photographer with the ID 340-19 RED. The image has been passed by the MID censor and bears the notes 201331 3-0.
