Westphalia, Germany, his parents being Philip and Emma Herzfeld. Inthe acquirement of his education he attended the schools of his native city, pursuinga course in the Gymnasium there. He was a youth of seventeen years when heleft his native country to become a resident of the United States, arriving on the 1stof September, 1883.
