Original WW1 (Great War) era postcard of female bricklayers, or brick manufacturers / brick works, with male overseer or foreman, the young women have replaced the young male workers who are away fighting in the war, older men are left behind to work and pass on their trade skills, circa 1916, 1917, 1918.

The image is dated from 1916 because the introduction of conscription in 1916 made the need for female workers urgent. Also, at about this time, the government began to coordinate the employment of women through various campaigns and recruitment drives. Note also that the girl on the bottom row, right hand side wears what looks like a sweetheart brooch.
