Curtiss JN-4H research aircraft. Historical image of a NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) Curtiss JN-4H 'Jenny' research aircraft in flight. These planes were used by NACA (the precursor to NASA) to research various flight characteristics of the JN-4H and other aircraft technologies. One of the objectives of the flight tests was to obtain data for correlation with wind-tunnel test results measured at MIT and to aid in the derivation of techniques for extrapolation of model results to full-scale conditions. Here the plane is towing a model of an aircraft wing to obtain lift and drag information for comparison with wind tunnel results. Photographed in 1921.
