He also proved that the modem method as HIGH FREQUENCY CURRENTS. ]21 taught by Morton, produces a current which, however strong, should have no perceptible effect. On December 2, 1890, Dr. Morton, in a lengthy communi-cation to the New York Neurological Society, amplified andcontinued his earlier publication of the year 1881. This wasprior to any publication along these lines by dArsonval orTesla, On February 24, 1891, dArsonval communicated tothe Society of Biology a paper on high frequency currents. Insettling the question of priority it is well to note that dArsonvals tmi. Fig. 63.—Drawing of dArsonval apparatus. paper was read exactly one month after Mortons paper had ap-peared in print on January 24, 1891. In May, 1891, there was published a paper on this subjectby Professor Elihu Thomson. On May 20, 1891, Nikola Tesla, in a lecture deliveredbefore the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, spoke ofhigh frequency currents. This was four months after Mortonspublication appeared. In the dArsonval modification, we utilize a static inducedcircuit solenoid of from 15 to 20 turns, leaving the rheophoresand patient as in using the Morton method. 122 ELECTRO-THERAPEUTICS. Tesla transformed the static induced current upwards as isdone in the ordinary induction coil. If we take the Mortonmethod and adapt a fine wire secondary circuit to the staticinduced circuit solenoid, we at once have Tesla^s method. The work of Oudin added greatly to a more thoroughknowledge of high frequency currents. No less an authority than D
