Some support should always be provided for the vines, to keep the fruit from touching the ground. (See the tomato supports illus- trated on page 57 of this Catalogue.) Fruit may be had several weeks earlier by sowing seed quite early, and trans- planting to small pots; when these are tilled with roots, shift to a larger size, and transplant to open ground when the weather is warm and settled, shading from the sun for a day or so. As the roots are not disturbed in taking plants from the pots, the plants suffer no check, ut grow right on.
