The Gadsden Purchase. — Five years after the dateof this treaty, an additional territory was conveyed by Mexicoto the United States. This territory has been called theGadsden Purchase, because the treaty was made by CaptainJames Gadsden. It was a tract to the westward of the RioGrande and south of the Gila (hela) River. It cost us tenmillion dollars.
