Lunenburg, pop. 2,000+, is 100Km (62miles) Southwest on the Canadian Atlantic Coast from the Provincial capital, Halifax. The historic town, one of two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, was founded in 1753 and named after the Duke of Braunschweig-Luneburg who later became King George II of Great Britain. The Museum pays tribute to the areas fishing heritage and is open seasonally from May through October.
