Winchester,Hampshire Friday 12th august Up to 80 cars have been destroyed in a massive fire at BoomTown Fair near Winchester. One of the festival's campsites was evacuated as firefighters battled the enormous blaze in the west car park. Huge plumes of black smoke billowed over the site and were visible from as far as Winchester city centre. No casualties have been reported. The blaze erupted at around and took over an hour to get under control. The flames are now out. South Central Ambulance Service said around 80 vehicles are burnt out, though Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service put the estimate at 60. Firefighters sent six pumps to the scene and are still advising people to avoid the area. The 'Boomtique' campsite was evacuated as a precaution, according to Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service. Crews from Winchester, Eastleigh, Redbridge, St Mary’s, Alresford, Beaulieu and Bishop's Waltham attended. Paramedics were on the scene but have not reported any casualties. South Central Ambulance Services hailed the "great joint working from all emergency responders". Firefighters stood among row after row of burnt-out vehicles for their debrief, with festivalgoers barred from the area until the flames are dampened down. Hampshire Constabulary are set to assist with the investigation. It will take "a few days" to establish the cause, a fire service spokesman said. BoomTown does not sell single day passes, so only a handful of ticketholders required travel out of the festival last night. Dozens of music fans were searching for last-minute tickets on social media last night despite the drama. Poor mobile signal on site hindered festivalgoers trying to contact insurers and relatives. The incident caused huge delays on the A31 and surrounding roads as motorists slowed down to look at the smoke.©UKNIP
