Carnation ringspot virus. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of virus particles (virions) of the carnation ringspot virus (CRSV). This plant virus is a dianthovirus, and has an RNA (ribonucleic acid) genome. It was first identified in 1955 in the carnations (Dianthus sp.), a genus of plants cultivated for their flowers. Symptoms are mottling and ringspots on the leaves, and stunted flowers. The virus is transmitted by several species of parasitic nematode roundworms. Magnification: x92,000 when printed 10cm high.
