The Monument, Castle Howe, Bowling Fell, Fellside, Kendal, Cumbria, England, United Kingdom, Europe.
Castle Howe is a motte and bailey site which was probably deserted in the late when Kendal Castle was built on the east side of the River Kent. The motte formed of upcast from a ditch across the ridge from north to south-east; the bailey, Bowling Fell to the east. On the motte is The Monument, an obelisk of 1788 celebrating the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The architect is thought to have been Francis Webster and was probably his first work in Kendal. The monument was built by William Holme.
