Othercompressors control the opening and closing of the suctionmechanically, but this is not enough, since the closing of thedischarge by means of poppet valves involves, at high speeds,not only rattle and noise, but also the choice of two other evils,namely, a considerable loss through back blowing, caused bysluggish closing of the discharge if light discharge-valvesprings are used, or a very considerable energy loss caused bythrottling through the valves if springs sufficiently heavy toclose the valves sharply are employed.
