WALDEMER OTIS, Business Man, was bornin Cleveland, Ohio, December 21, 1847,the son of William Francis and Isabella (iMurell)Otis. He is a lineal descendant of John Otis, whocame from Barnstaple, England, and took up hisresidence in Hingham, Massachusetts, in Otis children and their descendants for threeor four generations lived at Scituate, Massachusetts,and subsequently some members of this family in 1S76 which nominated Samuel A. Tilden forPresident. In 1S86 he moved from Ohio to NewYork. His marriage with Lillie Livingston Wileyoccurred in December WALDEMER OTIS acquired residence in New York, Connecticut, Ohioand Illinois. From the Preparatory Department ofWestern Reserve College, Hudson, Ohio, Mr. Otispassed into Dartmouth College, where he was grad-uated in 1866. Then he entered Harvard LawSchool and there received the degree of Bachelorof Laws in 1871. Meanwhile, from 1866 to 1869,he had been a member of the firm of Otis & Son, inthe grain and elevator business. Although neverengaging in active practice of the law, ]\Ir. Otis hasbeen an attorney of record in the states of Ohio andMassachusetts. In 1877 ^^id again in 1885 he wasnominated by the Democrats as their candidate forMayor of Cleveland, and he was also a delegate tothe National Democratic Convention at St. Louis PATTERSON, George Herbert Harvard in Buffalo, N.
