In the centre is erected a medallion, whose sides are beautifully modelled in relief. On one side is Ceres, the goddess of medallion is entwined with a magnificent wreath of flowers, and resting upon it are two winged Cupids, bearing a fancifully wrought presentation pitcher. The height of the Cake is 3 ½ feet; diameter, 23 is, altogether, a magnificent specimen of what an Albany paper calls "Pastry and Civilization".' From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
