Otaria, Peron. Muzzle broad, high in front; forehead rather convex, occiput high; cutting teeth f, the upper outer ones very large, like ca- nines ; grinders (of the adults) with very large roots, and small, compressed, lobed crowois; palate bone rather wider behind than in front, long, extending nearly to the articulation of the lower jaw behind; lower jaw broad, dilated below in front and behind at the angles ; the upper jaw elongate and dilate with age.
