Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Straight pin head and eye of a sewing needle. A sewing needle is used in sewing to pull thread through fabric. It has a pointed tip at one end and a hole or eye at the other. They are usually made from high carbon steel wire and are nickel plated for corrosion resistance. A straight pin is a pin consisting of a short straight stiff piece of wire with a pointed end at one end and a flatten surface at the other end. It is used to fasten pieces of cloth or paper together. Magnification: x11 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
