Extrasolar planet. Artwork of a hypothetical extrasolar planet and brown dwarf star as seen from the surface of a moon. Brown dwarfs are 'failed stars'. They are more massive than large planets like Jupiter, but not massive enough to trigger the nuclear reactions that form a star. It is thought that brown dwarfs are likely to have extrasolar planets orbiting them, however they would be too cold for life to exist.
