FIFTH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Dec. 01, 2016) Petty Officer 2nd Class Brandon Weigand, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94), conducts maintenance on a MK 38-25 mm machine gun system. Weigand serves aboard Nitze as a gunner's mate and is responsible for shipboard weapons and weapon's systems. Nitze, deployed as part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, is supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the 5th Fleet area of operations.
