The Traveling: Showman. 90 WHEN MOTHER LETS US PLAY PUPPET PLAYS THE PUPPET THEATRE A toy theatre is fun. Get or make a wide, openbox about four feet long. Stand the box on open side will be the back of the theatre. Nowtake out most of the wood at the top, so that youhave an open top. In the upper part of the frontcut an opening about a foot and a half, to show astage. Make the floor of the stage by puttingboards across on rests nailed to the inner sides ofthe theatre. With cross pieces give the theatre ahigh pointed front—this will hide you when you areat the back. Paint the theatre brown or dark curtains on rods across the front and the backof the stage. MAKING THE PUPPETS PLAY Stretch wires from one side to the other, acrossthe top of the stage, about two inches apart. Fastenwires or strings to the puppets and hang the puppetson the wires across the top of the stage. Keep thepuppets close to the sides, behind the curtains, untilneeded
