Tree that began its growth on top of ball of roots, soil, and rocks from wind-thrown tree. Roots of straddling tree grew down and around root ball as ball disintegrated over the years. Now all that remains are the rocks and humus that were once part of the root ball, as well as the moss-covered remains of the fallen tree's trunk, extending toward the upper right corner of this image. Hole in root structure of straddling tree is where root ball of fallen tree once existed.
