Editorial use only. This image may not be used to state or imply endorsement by CERN of any product, activity or service Cable production for the HL-LHC experiment at CERN. Rutherford cabling machine being operated in the superconducting laboratory in building 163 at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory. The machine was used for the production of the Nb-Ti (niobium-titanium) cables in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) magnets. Here, it is being used to assemble high-performance cables made from state-of-the-art Nb3Sn (niobium-tin) conductor, for the LHC High Luminosity (HL) Upgrade. This wiring machine is the only one in Europe able to do such a job. At CERN, particles are accelerated and collided at high speeds, producing new particles that are examined with large detectors. Many of the key discoveries in particle physics have been made at CERN. Photographed in May 2016.
