Hydra budding. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a Hydra viridis freshwater hydrozoan. Hydra viridis commonly reproduces by budding, as seen here. It catches small swimming crustaceans such as daphnia by stinging and adhesive cells on its tentacle (top). Prey is ingested via a mouth at the base of the tentacles.
