The Kapelle der Versöhnung (Chapel of Reconciliation) sits on the former site of the Church of Reconciliation in the Mitte district. The church was demolished in 1985 by the East German (GDR) government. The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 and fell on 9th November 1989. Three sections were retained with this being the Bernauer Straße section in the north which has been kept as a memorial.
