A decorated coped stone grave cover at Lanivet church, Cornwall, England, UK, similar to a hogback stone but with Cornish & Scandinavian influences. Viking-age hogbacks are usually much shorter, at just over 2m long this is definitely a full grave cover. Boat shaped, wider in the middle than at the ends. The ends are hipped, the triangular sloping portions decorated with triquetra knots. Each end of the ridge (a broad cable) terminates in two small inward-facing four-legged beasts, possibly dogs or bears. The sloping sides below the horizontal moulding are filled with a key or fret pattern. Bodmin Moor granite, the carvings are very worn but were recorded soon after the buried stone was uncovered in 1864 while a trench was being dug close to the S porch. The stone is presently half buried in the ground. Pre-Conquest, C10th or C11th. The church is situated halfway along the Forth-y-Sans, the Saints Way: miles from Padstow to Fowey avoiding the treacherous waters around Land's End.
