Two griots in northern Burkina Faso, one playing a traditional guitar, recite family histories through poetry, song, and music.

In the days leading up to Tabaski, the griot’s work grows. Visiting families throughout the town, griots recite family histories through poetry, song, and music, refusing to leave the compound until the family pays them for their troubles. Here, a griot with a traditional guitar calls on a Fulani family in Djibo.
