Cuirass Iron, Kalkriese, Germany, AD 9 A Roman citizen and cavalry commander of Germanic origin, Arminius treacherously teamed up with his native tribes in AD 9, to successfully ambush three legions led by Publius Quinctilius Virus, the Roman governer of Germany. Various and his entire army was destroyed. This is the worlds most complete Roman legionary’s articulated cuirass and found on the battlefield. Analysis suggest the soldier died wearing it. Arminius evaded Roman retribution, ridding his homeland of Romand rule, but was ultimately murdered by opponents within his own tribe.
